An elevated platform can be fully lit from behind and under. An assistant grabs a cloth from the platform & gets on top. The assistant lifts the cloth and drops it, immediately transforming into the magician. During the illusion there are lights panning through and under the prop to show nothing under or behind the unit.
Ryan Reed sold the building/performance rights in a book called Mystique: Utility & Evolution on his website. There were 50 copies of the softcover released and 2 copies of a hardcover. Owners of this book may build and perform the illusion.
