Fire & Water debuted Jun 21, 1913 in Chicago at the San Souci Hippodrome Theatre.1 A large elephant head table stood stage right with an elevated glass water tank on stage left. The tank was filled 2/3 with water and fully enclosed and strapped shut. The assistant (Edythe Packard) stood atop the table and was draped with a cloth. The water tank was covered with a curtain. A torch was set to the cloth and the figure burst into flames. The cloth fell to the table top and the water tank curtains were pulled back revealing the assistant now inside the water tank.2
